Pill and tablet dispenser (or pill organiser)
As more and more conditions become controllable and treatable, so the number of different tablets and pills that a single patient may be required to take increases.
This is not a problem whilst a patient is in a hospital or a care facility, however it can present problems when the responsibility for taking the medication falls on the patient themselves.
Whilst the overall result of this medication is clearly beneficial, it can result in confusion over which tablets to take and when to take them, and it is easily possible for a patient to inadvertently take the same tablets twice or alternatively forget to take them at all.
Dispensers for safety and peace of mind
Pill and tablet dispensers can be important aids for those who are required to take a number of different medications in different quantities and at different times during the course of a single day.
Most of these dispensers have a series of compartments that have times of the day imprinted on them and each compartment can hold several tablets. The way that they are used is by placing all of the tablets to be taken during the course of a day in the appropriate (time of day) compartment. Because each compartment relates to one of the hours of the day it is easy to tell which tablets to take at any given time.
For those with simple (daily) medication needs there are pill dispensers that have seven single compartments, one for each day of the week.
All of these dispensers come in many shapes and variations, however all are small and easy to carry around. Most will be pocket sized or fit in a small bag.
Electronic pill dispenser
For those who take a lot of different pills during the course of a day there are some automatic electronic dispensers that will sound an alarm and automatically open the appropriate pill compartment at a set time. These dispensers are almost fool proof and they will not allow the taking of medication until the correct hour has been reached.
A number of high street chemists will happily fill pill dispensers for patients when the prescriptions are collected.
