Portable illuminated magnifier
In addition to reading glasses, there is another visual aid that can be used as an occasional reading assister and it can be transported around in a pocket or handbag. It is called an illuminated magnifier and it also comes with its own light source making it suitable in poorly lit environments or for use at night.
These magnifiers are normally about the size of a credit card and they either have a small carry case or an integral protective case from which they slide in and out.
Those models that have illumination require a battery (button battery) and all versions will fit in a pocket as they are very thin in depth.
Who can benefit from an illuminated magnifier
Many people find that a mix of deteriorating eyesight and small print can make reading challenging. This can become a problem at any time from the age of 40 years old and onwards.
Reading glasses and large magnifiers are one option, but for activities like filling in a crossword a small handheld magnifying glass can be another alternative solution.
These magnifiers are well designed and they are comfortable to hold and many also have a spotlight that can be turned on to add extra illumination to a page or an object being examined. This also allows someone to read without disturbing others by turning on a bright light.
They can be used in any situation from the home to a bus or train and they are large enough to be useful, but small enough to remain discreet.
