Cups – easy hold, ergonomic, spouts

This section covers – easy hold cup, ergonomic cup holder, cups with spouts. Further dining, drinking and kitchenware aids can be found using the left hand menu.

There are a number of different cup and mug designs that range from those with a general ergonomic objective to those intended to tackle a specific medical challenge, e.g. ease of holding and dysphagia.

Easy hold cup

For those who find a cup difficult to hold and balance (particularly when it is filled with a hot liquid), there are a number of large handle and double handle cups that make drinking easier.

A double handle cup will usually have a handle on either side of the cup and these handles can take any number of forms. Some look like regular cup handles, some have horizontal handles with separate thumb supports, and some will have handles that look like flaps. Additionally these handles will have varying thicknesses and some will be profiled to the shape of the fingers. A number of these cups and beakers have handles that are inclined at a slight angle, this helps when tipping the beaker to drink. Different handle styles will suit different holding or gripping techniques.

For added security when carrying them, many of these cups and beakers have a clip-on or twist-on lid.

Ergonomic cup holder

This is a special holder into which you can place other cups and beakers.

An ergonomic cup holder will normally have two handles and it will take a variety of different cups, beakers or bottles, all of which fit into the central open section.

These holders can transform standard drinking vessels into easy-hold cups. Different cups can be interchanged and the holder is washable.

The handles are also oversized in order to make them easier to hold.

Cups with spouts and more

To reduce the possibility of spillage still further, there are cups with lids that include a drinking spout. These cups are ideal if you find drinking difficult or if your hands tremble or shake. With some models the angle of the spout can be adjusted to suit the person using it.

Some spout cups have non spill features that meant that even if the cup falls over it will still not leak or spill.

It is also possible to get cups and beakers with temperature indicating lids. These lids will change colour (usually to red or pink) if the temperature of the liquid within them is too hot to drink.
