Commercial stair lift applications
Most people think of stairlifts as domestic mobility appliances, however they do have a place in the world of business and industry and their popularity as an all-access solution is growing.
A stairlift can be a cheap and easy-to-fit means of converting a two or three storey office building into an all access zone for those who are mobility challenged. The stairlift will take up a minimum of space and a chair can be selected that can fold up when not in use.
In this way your office or business space can become an easier place to get around for any mobility challenged employees or visitors. They will also assist anyone returning to work who is convalescing from an injury to a limb etc.
An economic no fuss solution
If you want, or need, to convert your multi-level office space into an environment that can be accessed by both able bodied and mobility challenged people, here is something to think about.
Stairlifts generally require little or no structural preparation prior to their installation, whilst all of the other main options (i.e. an elevator or ramps) do.
Elevators and ramps steal space, require significant preparation work and have a messy installation. They also cause disruption in the work place.
Elevators have high running costs and ultimately get used by everyone (not just their intended users), whilst ramps can actually cause a hazard and even an obstruction to both able bodied and disabled people. Ultimately they both end up costing more than a stairlift.
The best option
Stairlifts have no structural or permanent effect on the superstructure (and in most cases the finishes) of a building. This means that in many instances they can be the only solution, e.g. in circumstances like listed building status (UK) and structures with an architectural or historical significance.
Stairlifts are cost efficient to run. Their DC power supply means that they operate from stored energy which ensures that they can still function for a reasonable period of time during a power outage. They can also be easily and quickly removed and the stair on which they operated restored to its pre-installation condition with a minimum of cost and time.
A commercial stairlift installation
Because a commercial stairlift will differ from a home stairlift in nothing other than its location, the mechanism and lifting infra structure will be the same as a domestic installation.
The only differences may be in the scale of the lift, i.e. it may be required to travel several flights of stairs, or to be sectionalised into two or more separate stair lifts (where each travels a single flight before a passenger alights).
It may also be desirable to have a seat with the most durable of finishes and construction, simply because it will get more frequent use than a home stairlift.
