Full body driers (air showers)

A body drier may initially seem extravagant, even for someone with reduced mobility, but it can have many advantages.

One of the big bonuses of most mobility and disability related products is that they allow someone with a physical restriction to continue to perform their everyday activities without the need for a carer - and this is exactly what a body drier does.

A full body drier can help anyone who has problems drying themselves. This may because they have difficulty holding a towel, they find it hard to reach around their back or bend down to their legs, or because they have a sensitivity that makes towelling unpleasant or even painful. This could be due to sensitive skin or an ailment like arthritis. Whatever the cause, a warm air body drier can make an "after" bath or shower experience a more relaxing and independent activity.

How they work

A body drier takes the form of a tall vertical wall mounted column that contains air jets that expel warm air across the full height of a human body. They usually have a white plastic or chrome metal finish. They are attractive to look at and easy to clean.

The warm currents (or jets of air) produced by the drier dry and massage the body and, by slowly turning around, it is possible to dry the front, back and sides of any individual from their head to their feet.

These driers are normally activated by a button control mounted on a wall directly adjacent to the air shower. Grab rails can easily be added around the shower for anyone who feels unstable when standing. It is even possible to sit on a stool or seat whilst the drying process takes place.

These heated air showers can typically produce warm air up to a temperature of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit (i.e. approximately 20 degrees centigrade) and most will have two or more operating speeds. They require a standard mains electricity connection and have comparatively low running cost.

Body driers usually tend to be every bit as popular with able bodied people as they are with those who are less able, so the are a very sellable luxury asset in a home.
