Bed handles
For someone who has difficulty moving around, the process of getting in and out of a bed or chair can be physically challenging.
The use of bed handles or rails can help to make getting into or out of a bed much easier. It can also remove the need for assistance from a carer or family member, thereby prolonging independence.
How they work
The handles are secured by inserting the hidden (extended) part of the handle between the mattress and the bed base (or divan) leaving the grab part of the handle projecting above the edge of the bed. This is the part of the handle that is used for purchase and weight bearing.
These handles can be obtained as single units or in pairs and they give the bed a physical handle that a person can hold on to whilst helping themselves up or lowering themselves down.
Bed handles come in different sizes and shapes with the more elongated versions being described as bed rails.
The grip part of the handles will normally be made of an easy-hold material and magazine pockets are often incorporated into the handles of many bed rail designs. This removes the stark appearance of the handles whilst adding extra utility to them.
There are many different versions of these bed handles on the market, so finding a design that suits any individual and style of bed should not be a problem.
