Pain relief aids – TENS machines

Many people can suffer constant or nagging pain and in some cases this pain can be relieved or reduce by special electronic devices called Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulators or TENS for short.

These TENS machines can help some of those who fall into the bariatric sector and who suffer pain as a result of their size or weight.

Over recent years the use of TENS pain relievers has become increasingly popular and, although they do not work in all cases, many people have gained considerable relief as a result of their use.

How they stop pain

TENS machines can reduce or eliminate pain through the use of electrical impulses that act to block the pain transmitters that are being sent from the nerves to the brain. The result is that the brain is unable to register the pain and because of this the pain or discomfort is eliminated, i.e. not experienced.

If you are a larger person, then before considering using this type of pain relief aid it is advisable to consult with a doctor to ensure that using this form of aid is safe. A doctor may be able to prescribe alternative medications or treatments that can also be effective in pain removal, so you should consider all options and follow any medical advice.

Do they produce a sensation?

Some people who use these TENS pain relief machines describe the sensation that results as something similar to a light massage. Most of these machines have different setting levels and massage may even be an option.

TENS machines are small and portable, powered by batteries and this means that they can be carried around at all times. They are discreet and their use will not be noticed by others.
